Nuclear Weapons Manufacturing Processes, Equipment, and Facilities
Our technical professionals have “grown up” in the NWC and they have decades of knowledge and experience spanning all facets of material science and engineering directly related to nuclear weapons material processing and manufacturing needs. Our capabilities include:
- Materials science specialists with experience with the various weapons materials (e.g. beryllium metal and alloys, beryllium oxide, depleted uranium and uranium alloys, enriched uranium, plutonium, lithium and lithium compounds, a variety of classified materials, high strength steels, stainless steel, and high strength aluminum) used in manufacturing and stockpile evaluation and refurbishment programs
- Technical specialists who are experienced in virtually every manufacturing and certification process used at the weapons laboratories and the production sites (e.g.,
processing, purification, metal production, rolling, forming, joining, and assembly) – they know how to successfully make parts that meet demanding weapons requirements
- Professionals whose experience and knowledge covers every major phase of weapons manufacturing and product quality, including component product engineering, part manufacturing, product assembly, production control, quality assurance, and evaluation of stockpile aging
- Expertise in identifying nuclear operations issues of concern, developing and overseeing comprehensive operational readiness plans, developing preventative maintenance programs and mentoring nuclear operations staff
- Supporting R&D for potential product or process improvements that incorporate lean and flexible manufacturing principles, specification of process improvements, and assisting in deploying and achieving operational readiness of new processes and technologies
The private sector material science and manufacturing expertise and experience represented by Pro2Serve’s people adds another dimension to the nature of Pro2Serve’s support capabilities. These experts provide an avenue to best-in-class and state-of-the-art processes, techniques, and trends in commercial manufacturing technology and applications.
Through application of new technology, together with techniques such as model-based manufacturing and lean manufacturing, Pro2Serve’s manufacturing specialists can significantly improve the efficiency of our clients’ manufacturing processes. Our capabilities in application of new technology are enhanced by our experience in technology management, including developing comprehensive technology plans and roadmaps for numerous DOE national technology initiatives. |
